A new girl (or guy) is on the way! Zooey Deschanel is pregnant and expecting her second child with her husband, Jacob Pechenik, Us Weekly can confirm.
The New Girl actress, 37, and Pechenik are already parents of 18-month-old daughter Elsie Otter.
As previously reported by Us, the actress surprised fans by confirming not only the birth of her firstborn in August 2015 but also that she had secretly married Pechenik.
“I am thrilled to confirm that Zooey Deschanel and her husband, Jacob Pechenik, are new parents to a beautiful healthy baby girl,” the actress’ rep told Us in a statement at the time, confirming that Deschanel quietly wed Pechenik in June 2015 in Texas.
During her first pregnancy, the 500 Days of Summer actress struggled with avoiding her fave foods.
“You can’t have sushi. You can’t have cheese that tastes good,” she said during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! “You can have a little bit [of coffee], but I would have, like, four cups a day. And now I can have a half cup, which is a joke! It’s a total joke!”
Zooey Deschanel has lobbed a big cross-complaint in her dispute with her former management firm over commissions. The New Girl star alleges that Seven Summits partner Sarah Jackson purposely barged into her private dressing room with two strangers while she was changing her clothes.
According to papers filed last week in Los Angeles Superior Court, Deschanel says she was on tour performing with her musical group She & Him when “Jackson brought the two strangers in the dressing room to help further [the manager’s] career and to potentially generate revenue for [the firm],” states the cross-complaint.
That’s not all she’s alleging.
Seven Summits originally brought the lawsuit in December 2015. The firm said it had represented the star from 1996 to 2013 and demanded 10 percent of what she received for selling the female-focused site Hello Giggles. After Deschanel refused, the actress-singer allegedly also refused to pay post-termination commissions for other work including Deschanel’s role on New Girl.
Initially, Deschanel challenged the claim by filing a petition with the California Labor Commissioner asserting that Seven Summits and Jackson had been acting as unlicensed talent agents. But the petition was dropped. Deschanel’s attorney Marty Singer appears to have a new strategy.
Deschanel is now claiming that Seven Summits doesn’t really have an enforceable written agreement — “the document upon which Cross-Defendants rely does not appear to contain [her] signature,” states her court papers — and that the firm has breached fiduciary duties.
She alleges that Seven Summits attempted to take advantage of Deschanel’s relationship with Creative Artists Agency by requesting that agent Jim Toth set up a meeting with an actor that Seven Summits sought to manage. When the actor wouldn’t sign up, Seven Summits allegedly decided to retaliate against CAA by encouraging Deschanel to switch to UTA “despite the fact that [Seven Summits] knew CAA and the agents representing [Deschanel] were (at the time) the agency and agents most well-suited for [her] entertainment career and that changing to UTA was not in [her] best professional interests.”
After she terminated Seven Summits in 2013, Deschanel switched back to CAA. Two years later, shortly after many CAA agents (including hers) defected for UTA, triggering a separate lawsuit, Deschanel again moved over to UTA.
In her cross-complaint, Deschanel also alleges that Jackson has sought to get producer credits on projects the actress was involved in as well as tried to obtain backend participation for her work. Deschanel attempts to create a portrait of a manager whose actions were self-serving. She’s demanding disgorgement of all commissions since January 2013 as well as declaratory relief that Seven Summits has no right to collect commissions on her earnings or any monies received from investments.
“This is just another attempt by Ms. Deschanel to muddy the waters and not to pay the commissions owed,” Seven Summits attorney Kenneth Freundlich tells THR. “We intend to vigorously litigate against this cross-complaint.”
Looks like one child was not the plan for Zooey Deschanel and husband, Jacob Pechenik.
The 36-year-old New Girl actress is expecting her second child with Pechenik, but what does this mean for her hit Fox series?
We have no idea. When Deschanel took some time off to give birth to Elsie Otter last year, Megan Fox stepped in to cover for the six episodes Deschanel missed.
In the narrative, it was revealed that Jess was sequestered due to jury duty, but it’s doubtful the writers will be able to go that route this time.
It has been revealed that the cast and crew have been informed of the pregnancy, but it’s unclear what this will mean for production on a potential seventh season.
Yeah, the show has not yet been renewed, or canceled.
Megan Fox’s character, Reagan, was an instant hit with viewers and she has appeared sporadically on the show ever since her debut.
Her character was like a funnier version of Jess. Yeah, we know, Jess is hilarious, too.
Megan Fox in Purple
Maybe they can make her a more regular fixture, or something.
There’s no denying that the show feels off without Deschanel, but we don’t even know how far along she is in her pregnancy at this stage.
Zooey Deschanel and Her Daughter on The Set of ‘New Girl’
There’s every possibility they could go straight into production on Season 7 to get some episodes in the can, but that would involve the show being picked up for more episodes.
Ratings are down around 20 percent this year, but the show still packs a punch in delayed viewing and Fox has been pretty vocal about not caring about the live ratings.
Could Fox be losing both Deschanel sisters in the one year?
Quite possibly. If you recall, Emily Deschanel is one of the leads in Bones, which will be ending its 12-year-run in the Spring.
Zooey Deschanel puts a dental device into her mouth and tries to speak out while playing a game during her appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, airing on Monday (October 24).
The 36-year-old New Girl actress, who voices a character in the new animated film Trolls, helped raise $25,000 for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation by playing along.
During the interview, Zooey opened up to Ellen about her daughter Elsie and working with Justin Timberlake on her new movie, which hits theaters on November 4.
Netflix Inc. (NFLX), the leading online subscription-video service, signed an exclusive multiyear deal with Twentieth Century Fox Television to stream past seasons of “New Girl” to its U.S. online members.
The first season of the ensemble roommate comedy led by actress Zooey Deschanel became available today, and subsequent seasons will go online after their regular broadcast run, the companies said today in a statement.
“We know our members love comedies and that they’ll enjoy watching all the current and future episodes of ‘New Girl,’” said Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix.
She & Him recently kicked off their North American tour to promote their new album Volume 3. Saturday they performed at the Verizon Theatre in Grand Prairie, TX. I’ve added photos to the gallery.
If you closed your eyes and let your mind drift, you’d swear you were listening to an AM radio station circa 1970s. Make that early ’70s so that there’s still remnants of the ’60s on the dial.
That’s the effect of She & Him, the indie pop duo of actress-singer-songwriter Zooey Deschanel and guitarist-producer-singer M. Ward. In concert, where they were Saturday night at Verizon Theatre, the pair comes backed by a six-member band including drummer Scott McPherson, pedal steel guitarist and mandolin player Chris Scruggs, bassist Mike Coykendall and violinist Tom Hagerman. The sound was crisp, clean combining elements of country, R&B and folk into a crystalline sonic mixture that wafted from the speakers like a pure breeze.
She & Him just started their summer tour in support of Volume 3, the third studio disc released in May. So naturally the 90-minute set was full of tunes from the disc. “Shadow of Love” was a particular standout. It was all lushly somber with beguiling violin and guitar solos. Deschanel, who took to the keyboards, delivered a vocal performance full of emotional longing. She channeled ’70s era Linda Ronstadt during this melancholy gem. Equally memorable were “Never Wanted Your Love,” “Together,” “Baby,” with Ward also on vocals, and the perky pop number “I Could’ve Been Your Girl.”
Underneath this 33-year-old’s cute exterior is a sharp business brain and a plan to make women more empowered than ever. What’s not to like about Zooey Deschanel?
Zooey in Cosmo, the mag with the sex tips and go-big-or-go-home mission statement? Oh, yes. Don’t let her retro-girlie fashion sense or cupcake-centric blog posts fool you – Zooey is a badass.
Her New Girl co-star Jake Johnson (who plays her housemate Nick Miller) explains it this way: “Zooey doesn’t f*ck around,” he tells us by phone. “She’s a great businessperson. For some reason, it’s never talked about. They talk about how she’s quirky and sweet, and that is true. But she has a music business, she’s been nominated for awards, she has a profitable website, and she’s the lead in a show she partially owns. I watch and I learn a lot from her.”

Zooey Deschanel has been confirmed to guest on two episodes of The Simpsons.
The New Girl actress will return to the Fox animated series during its 24th season as Mary Spuckler, the hillbilly daughter of Cletus that Bart nearly married in season 19.
While originally expected to only be appearing in a single episode, TVLine now reports that Deschanel will not only appear in The Simpsons‘ September 30 season premiere but will return for a special Valentine’s Day episode entitled “Love Is A Many-Splintered Thing”.
The episode will reportedly see Bart and Mary’s relationship come under strain when he fails to pay enough attention to the couple’s relationship.
Deschanel was recently nominated for an Emmy nomination in the ‘Lead Actress in a Comedy Series’ category for her work on New Girl.
She has described the nomination as “an incredible life moment”.

Zooey Deschanel is dating screenwriter Jamie Linden.
The ‘New Girl’ actress – who split from husband Ben Gibbard earlier this year after two years of marriage – was seen publicly kissing Jamie in Los Angeles, confirming rumours of a romance between them.
The pair were first linked together in June after they appeared “inseparable, holding hands and hooking their arms together” at a ‘Magic Mike’ after-party.
A source added: “Jamie’s a really nice guy. He’s funny, and a little geeky … he’s into her!”
Zooey announced her marriage to Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben had ended “mutually” and “amicably” in December and claimed there was no one was involved with the split.
The 32-year-old beauty recently admitted she likes intelligent men who make her laugh.
She said: “I think intelligence and humour are probably the most attractive traits in a guy.”
However, she has also said she doesn’t feel ready to date, saying: “Honestly, I’m just going through a divorce, so I don’t really think [dating] is something I want to get into now. I don’t have time to date. I literally don’t have time.”
